We had this idea to put a new piece of music out once a month – these are new pieces that came together through 2 days of improvisation in November 2023 – they were recorded as they happened, live at BABALKastel – our new music usually starts this way then the tracks are usually amended/rearranged, generally following where Karen Langley’s vocals are going.
Because we have been working in this way for over 20 years we have become intuitive to what we each create in the moment.
Don’t expect blues or groove/riff jams – these are often excursions in sound.
We are joined on this recording by our new bass player Chris Gill.
The first piece entitled There Is No Path In The Sky (14:48) will be available as a free download on our Bandcamp site on January 1st and then a new piece of music on the first of each month.

There is no path in the sky
The in there is no path in the sky, overcome the river in your soul,
Move the mind to the still place where warmth penetrates the coldest fish,
More than fish, you, the skin and bone of life’s longing
Will make an entrance to your own dance, make a penance for your own foolish desires.
Lust has left by the back door, leaving her red satin gloves on a broken chair; do not bother to follow her!
She has red eyes for another open door, greed is still within, chewing the heads off the dead musicians who play on till the very skin falls from their chalky fingers!
And notes peel from their blistered feet…..
Avarice still dances on, flying from table to table, unaware of the need to stop and rest
He is the dancer that calls the tune, twirling endlessly while botox shufflers fail to keep up!
They fall and rise again, until they are wisps of smoke unheeded and then gone forever….
Lay her a place, she’s already in, see her spin, quelled and quiet, in baleful hush; velvet tears on a gentle blush.
Looking forward past the glance, end in dreams and a crazy dance,
Looking forward past the dance, end in dreams and a crazy glance.
Open, sure and solid, step-sister of your wild despair!

The loathsome spools of tape that return and shave off minutes of existence, and they cut and splice the wonders of any purpose,
The links of habit pulling hard from comfort to muck,
Breathing in time as envy evaporates the young days and your gaze takes in the world of space, dancing done, past green and silent, under light winds and lighter step, lighter step.
